Description
Nupafeed MAH® Calmer is a unique magnesium supplement for horses, designed to support nervous or stress-related behaviour. MAH® contains no L-Tryptophan, herbs, or any ingredient that could compromise performance.
What sets Nupafeed MAH® apart is its refinement process. The German pharmaceutical company Verla-Pharm developed a unique method to produce Magnesium Aspartate-Hydrochloride (MAH) — a superior form of magnesium, exclusive to Nupafeed. Verla-Pharm has supplied the medical industry with its acclaimed products since 1949 and the equestrian market for over 30 years.
All cells require the right balance of calcium and magnesium. During stress or excitement, magnesium levels can drop, allowing calcium to overload muscle and nerve cells. This triggers the release of stress hormones and excitatory compounds, which can result in anxiety, erratic behaviour, aggression, or muscle tension.
MAH® is suitable for any stress-related behaviour, both at home and in competition. It can be used with horses of any discipline, in training, on box rest, for sales preparation, as well as with foals, covering stallions, and temperamental mares.
Nupafeed MAH® Calmer contains water-soluble, amino-complex magnesium, which is highly bioavailable and efficiently absorbed into tissues — far superior to most other magnesium supplements.
MAH® also offers the unique benefit of having equal molar amounts of hydrogen and chloride, meaning it does not react with gastric acid. Unlike other magnesium forms, it can be administered in higher doses without affecting blood or urine pH, or interfering with the absorption of other nutrients such as calcium, potassium, or iron.
MAH® Calmer is easy and flexible to use. It can be added directly to feed or given via oral syringe, with dosages tailored to each horse. For horses that do not require daily support, MAH® Concentrated Syringes are available for travel, sales, competition, or short-term needs.

Feeding Advice
Feeding rate varies considerably from horse to horse. Most horses require an initial loading amount of 150ml, split between two or three feeds per day. For ponies or youngstock, the loading amount is 30ml per 100Kg bodyweight per day, split between two or three feeds.
It is usually necessary to maintain the loading amount for 3-10 days before an improvement is seen. Thereafter, horses usually require 5-10ml per 100Kg once daily.
MAH Concentrated Syringes are also available. These can be used on their own or as a top up to the Liquid for competition and travel.

Yes, MAH is compliant with all international governing bodies including the FEI and racing authorities.
Q.Will feeding MAH hinder performance?
No, MAH supports athletic performance. Magnesium is critical for muscle function and energy metabolism. It also helps to stop horses running their races too soon or running/jumping ‘blind’ due to stress.
MAH does not contain any potentially drowsy ingredients such as herbs or L-tryptophan.
Q. Is MAH safe to feed with other supplements or medications?
Yes. Note that magnesium can hinder the absorption of tetracycline antibiotics, for this reason they should be fed at least three hours apart.
Q. Can I feed MAH to ulcer prone horses?
Yes. MAH supports against gastric ulcers through the reduction of stress.
Q. Can I feed MAH to a horse with PSSM?
Yes, magnesium is an important electrolyte needed for muscle relaxation.
